Director Executive Compensation (m/f/d)

Your area of competence

As a Director, you will be a senior member of the cross-regional EMEA Executive Compensation team, likely to be managing and mentoring junior team members, but also being provided support and development from the senior leadership team and Partners. You will take a leading role in client projects and developing new client relationships, as well as actively taking part in the team’s evolution and development. Some of your key responsibilities will involve:

- Being a key participant in a wide range of client projects and assignments throughout the whole client lifecycle. As a Director you will be involved with:

  • Hosting or co-participating in initial new or existing client project exploratory meetings, to understand client needs and develop client proposals.
  • Drafting and reviewing client project proposal documents with support from junior team members.
  • Quoting and arranging the contracting for new client projects.
  • Developing client project plans and timelines.
  • Drafting and producing client reports – using your own expertise, that of other team members, Aon’s proprietary data and public information.
  • Assisting on the review of share plans as part of due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Drafting and reviewing disclosures in respect of shareholder approved Directors’ Remuneration Policies and Directors’ Remuneration Reports.
  • Reviewing and assisting in relation to regulatory compliance.
  • Performing research and providing advice on a variety of corporate governance, legal and other matters to support client queries.
  • Delegating project work – in particular, analysis, data collection and report drafting - to junior team members and managing and reviewing their outputs.
  • Ensuring delivery of client work within timelines and budget and to the necessary quality standards.
  • Working in collaboration, or with the oversight, of Partners on the above as required, depending on the size and complexity of the project.

- Utilising and extending your internal and external network to develop business opportunities for the EMEA Executive Compensation team in the DACH region. Many business leads are obtained from existing contacts both externally and from within Aon, so you will look to maximise and respond to these.
- Ensuring a strong level of team engagement and responsiveness to clients, being both proactive but realistic in terms of client deliverables.
- Helping to drive thought leadership across our holistic executive compensation offering; bringing your own experiences and knowledge to the team in order to develop project strategies, areas of client focus and responses to the evolving environment.
- Ensuring you remain current with your industry, sector and specialist knowledge, ensuring you are tuned into appropriate media, networks, organisations and key contacts in order to stay up-to-date with the latest developments on pay and corporate governance.
- Helping support the execution of the overall commercial strategy of the EMEA Executive Compensation offering.
- Acting as a role model and mentor for junior members of the team. Participating in training initiatives, coaching and developments plans. Working with the senior leadership team on developing a strong team culture in order to ensure the achievement of team goals in alignment with overall team wellbeing and job satisfaction.

Your profile

  • Strong technical experience in executive compensation including executive remuneration plan design or strategy, incentive/equity compensation design or corporate governance/regulation; with an interest in developing ESG experience.
  • Experience leading and delivering consulting client (or major in-house reward) projects and engagements.
  • Proven client relationship experience, either in consulting or significant in-house internal clients.
  • Experience of mentoring and leading a team.
  • Ability to build strong internal networks and collaborate well with colleagues in other offices.
  • Very strong listening skills, the ability to develop insightful questions, and identify and implement the appropriate strategy to successfully address the client’s issues.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, for interactions with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work in situations where there is no unique right answer.
  • Being an “empathetic leader”, someone who can ensure commercial deliverables can be aligned with team wellbeing and ensure this is front of mind when leading on projects.
  • Analytical background and proficiency to write and review formulas and develop pay and equity models in Excel strongly preferred, though not required.
  • Native/business fluent German language skills required.
  • A degree, professional qualification (accountancy, tax, legal, actuarial, HR) or MBA is an advantage, but not a mandatory requirement.
